1 Corinthians 3:6
“I planted the seed,
Apollos watered it,
but God has been making it grow. “
I have run across this passage a number of times this week in reading or in a book or in thought. The part that I am having speak so clearly to me is not about what I do or what some other person does… but that it is God who makes something grow.
We participate as God leads us in doing something good, sharing, teaching, helping etc. But whatever is actually grown in a person’s life is not because of us, it is God doing that growth work with the person receiving etc.
This makes me humble to know I can’t grow living things, but I can participate with God and He can. I can’t change someone, but God can. I can’t really even change myself, not alone… It takes me accepting God’s growth and doing something in me. Alone I am not growing but with HIm the potential is there if I cooperate with Him.
So my task is not to change folks, but to help them get in the right conditions of sunlight, good soil (the word) and help transport water or whatever is needed to help as God leads.
What an amazing God we serve and who has given us the blessings of life with Him.
